My work has always had a strong figurative element, with particular emphasis on facial expressions. I became interested in sculpting figures when I was doing my ceramics degree at Bath Academy of Art in the late 70's. Nowadays, I work on a small scale creating, amongst other things, portraits in clay (mostly porcelain or white stoneware with the subtle use of underglaze tints for colour). Working in porcelain enables me to make fine, detailed faces but I also enjoy the freedom of working in stoneware terracotta clay, creating surrounds for my ‘medieval’ figures.
